Gravesham Girls 3

A long journey for the Gravesham girls under 13s to play there first game of the season in a new division playing new clubs. Park Rangers based in the Isle of Sheppey was the port of call. I was probably more nervous than the girls were as they approached the half way line to remember the victims of the 9/11 disaster with a minutes silence from both clubs. The game was open in that both managers approached the game with an attacking team and several goal making chances were missed form both sides. Kimberly missed a couple of good chances early in the first half with Range Rovers still managing to pressure our defenders Ami and Rebecca and Gabriel, eventually succeeding with a well timed run down the right wing and a beautiful cross into the path of the eventual Rovers goal scorer. The team didn’t get there heads down but rallied on with a good team spirit with Kelsey making a great run through to the right of Rovers goal and strike it with such force it is deflected into the goal just past the left hand post to equal the scores.

Gravesham swapped there team around a little to compensate for the strengths of Range rovers but early on in the second half Rovers manage to get a good shot on goal. Elsa manages to save the first shot with a well placed foot only for it to go back out across goal to a rovers player the keeper some how manages to recover and dives on to the ball just as the player tries to strike the ball into the back of the net, catching Elsa in the face, but undeterred she immediately kicks the ball out up field to the awaiting players. Shannon makes a run down the right with Kelsey passing the ball between them like true professionals with Shannon eventually taking control and lobbing the ball over the keepers head into the back of the net, a feat she tried on a number of occasions before, and tried again later this time the ball going to Kimberly who manages to score the third goal for Gravesham. Olivia has a couple of chances to hit the back of the net but all to no avail but all very close and Megan manages in her position of helping out the defenders to keep the hard fighting rovers out of the game the final score 3-1 to Gravesham
